Veterinary Technician Schools

Many people ask me for vet tech resume guidelines.  While there are none specifically that I know of, here are some hints on how to write your resume so people notice you and some big mistakes to avoid.

There are several different vet tech specialties that you can focus your interests in.  But there are not vet tech schools that offer specialties.  Most of the time if you want to focus on one area you have to take the initiative and do it yourself.

Most states require vet techs to take 16 hours of course work or seminars or workshops to maintain their licenses.  For most Veterinary Technicians the requirement of additional hours of continuing education is a state standard for renewal of your license.

An easy way to get CE credits is to read articles in Veterinary Technician Magazine.  Every month there is at least one article.  You just read it and answer the questions, then send it in.  You can pick up CE credits like this but make sure you know what is allowed by your state.

Every once in a while there is a discussion if we should call ourselves nurses or technicians.  While I think we should just keep our name the same, some people who think we should call ourselves veterinary nurses make a good point.
