Become A Vet Tech!

Although National Veterinary Technician Week only comes once a year in October, every day is a great day to be a vet tech!  If you are thinking about becoming a vet tech I encourage you to learn everything you can about what types of programs are offered out there and how to get into them.

If you are thinking about becoming a vet tech, try to get as much experience as possible working with animals in a veterinary clinic.  Although this does not guarantee admission to a program it helps.

Nowadays it is important to have a high grade point average when applying due to the high level of competition.

In fact most programs would rather have someone with less experience but better grades, then someone with lots of experience and poor grades.

That is just the way it is.  Also if you are to the point of applying to a program, make sure it is an accredited program.  Some programs out there are not accredited and even though you may graduate from the program, your state’s veterinary board may not recognize your achievement.

Although this does not take away your knowledge, it does prevent you from calling yourself a veterinary technician and may affect your pay.
