Being A Vet Tech Means Always Always Learning

After you graduated from Vet Tech School, you thought you were finally done learning, takings tests, and reading books forever.  But once you got into practice you realized that there was so much more to learn, in fact if you want to be a leader in this field you must continually be learning.

Any Vet Tech who has been around for over a decade can tell you how fast the veterinary industry has changed.  Everything from equipment, anesthesia, vaccine schedules, and even regulations and laws change over time.

In order to make yourself the most valuable vet tech you need to always be reading and staying up on what is happening in the industry.

Also if you want to get a raise or get a higher starting salary at another vet clinic than you need to demonstrate that you educate yourself all the time.

So how do you do this?

You can do this by reading Veterinary Technician magazine, going to conferences and meetings, reading books, or talking to veterinarians.

There is an old saying I like to quote sometimes that says leaders are readers.

This is even more true in the health care field.  With so many changes you need to be aware of them.

So many of use become complacent in the area of continuing education though.  We stop reading our trade magazine, stop reading text books, and when we do go to vet tech conferences, we skip out early to go party.

If you spend just 30 minutes a day reading something about veterinary medicine you can easily become one of the most knowledgeable vet techs in your town.

Don’t laugh, this is possible, because unfortuanelty the majority of people are lazy and do not follow through with thier goals.

Don’t let this be you.

Start today and decide to set aside 30 minutes everyday to read.  Let’s say from 7 to 7:30 pm, and then after that you can watch all the TV and Animal Planet you want!
