Finding Vet Tech Equine Schools
There are no vet tech equine schools. However any well rounded vet tech program should offer you some time to work on horses. As a vet tech you should have experiences working with all animals, even if you are convinced now you only want to work on horses. Here are some tips on finding a vet tech program with a good equine program.
Since 95% of students will want to work on small animals, schools naturally heavily focus on this aspect. But if you want to do horses then you have to call them and ask how much hands on time you will have with horses specifically.
If you truly want to become an equine vet tech you will need to do much of the learning on your own. You can do this by volunteering with equine veterinarians, and also when you have to do your summer internship, make sure it is with an equine clinic.
There are no AVMA accredited Vet Tech programs that are 100% equine, so you have to do the best you can. Learn what you can about small animals while there, because many of the basic techniques do translate well into the horse world.
The best thing about wanting to become a horse vet tech is that you have much less competition than other vet techs who want to do small animals.
