Getting Along With The Relief Vet
Is there a certain relief vet that you can’t seem to get along with? Do they always seem to make is extra hard for you to simply do your job? If there is someone like this in your life, here are some tips I’ve learned to get through this situation.
Establish Dominance
First of all recognize that like everybody else that comes into a new situation they must see how they fit in. Many times new people feel that they must somehow prove themselves worthy.
If you have a relief vet that seems to be always trying to prove how good they are, you can try and offer them words of encouragement or compliment them on how they handled the last client or case.
Complimenting
Remember the relief vet is only there a brief amount of time. One way to make it as pleasant as possible is to butter them up. Tell them how they are doing a good job, and how that you feel lucky that they were available to fill in the vacant spot.
You always get more honey!
Abusive Relief Vets
If the relief vet is truly abusive to the staff you have to report it to the owners of the clinic. There is not reason that anybody should mistreat you, even if they do think you did something wrong.
If the owners of clinic want a great clinic they will work hard to keep the staff happy.
Summary
With new relief vets one of the best things you can do is to offer them a quick tour of the clinic in the morning let them know that if they have any questions to let you know.
By establishing yourself quickly as someone who is there to make their day go smoother, they will view you as an important ally, rather than just another old crappy vet tech with a chip on her shoulder.
