Vet Tech Specialties
There are several different vet tech specialties that you can focus your interests in. But there are not vet tech schools that offer specialties. Most of the time if you want to focus on one area you have to take the initiative and do it yourself.
Vet tech schools have to offer a well-rounded curriculum and because of this there is no time to specialize. But this should not deter you from trying to.
Once you graduate there are almost unlimited in which you could specialize. Areas like cardiology, dermatology, orthopedic surgery, equine, dairy, behavior, etc.
I would contact veterinarians who specialize in these areas and try to work for them, or at least volunteer in their clinics. This is a great way to gain the experience that you need.
If you are still in vet tech school, try to work or volunteer on the weekends in these clinics so that you are ready to go once you have graduated.
Some people think you should work in a general practice for a few years before you specialized, but you have to do what you think is right for your career.
Specializing may limit your job choices, but in general you can command a much higher salary.
