Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Nurse?

Every once in a while there is a discussion if we should call ourselves nurses or technicians.  While I think we should just keep our name the same, some people who think we should call ourselves veterinary nurses make a good point.

One of the main points is that the term nurse generally implies more training than technician.  Also more people are familiar with what nurses do.  More so than those who know what veterinary technicians do.

The problem then becomes what do you call veterinary assistants.  Do you call them veterinary nurse assistants?

Maybe I’m just stuck in my ways, but I like the system the way it is now.

If there is change I think it would have to come from the AVMA, and they would only change it if there is pressure on them to do from veterinarian sand technicians which I don’t see happening anytime soon.
